What our club offers to a prospective member

Contours Napier offers members a fully equipped gym with top of the range cardio equipment, weights machines, free weights, triple cross over, smith machine, bosu, swiss ball, rebounder. If this all sounds very confusing that’s ok as we have fully trained and REPs registered staff to show you how to use it all!  You wont be left alone, and everyone is in the same boat as you.

REPs is the governing body for the fitness industry. Being REPs registered means that our staff and our club operate at a high level of competency and you are in very safe hands.  A new member will receive a full hours consultation with a Trainer when they join. This consultation will involve a weigh and measure and blood pressure check, medical history check, and a discussion about what the member wants to achieve. The Trainer will put together a programme there and then, and take the member through each exercise explaining how to set up the machines, how to perform the exercises, and how they should be feeling when doing them.

The Trainer can write a programme to suit any timeframe eg: a 30 minute programme, 45 minute programme or an hours programme, and if the member has medical issues or injury the trainer is happy to contact their doctor or physio.

The member will then have a programme card that they can refer to when they come to the club and there are always staff on the gym floor to ask if the member needs extra help. We aim to take the fear out of the gym by being supportive. The new member will also be assigned to a receptionist who is responsible for their continuity of care whilst a member. This receptionist will be in touch regularly with the member to ensure that they are happy and that they have appointments booked.

Once the member has been with us for 2 weeks they receive a half hour 2 week followup appointment with a Trainer. During this session the trainer checks that the member is happy with their programme, adjusts weights where required and can alter exercises.

Every 8 weeks thereafter the member will receive what we call a WOF or warrant of fitness. This is a re-weigh, re-measure, re-programme. Its here that the member can see where they were and where they are now and set goals with the trainer for the next 8 weeks.

These assessments are all included in the cost of a membership and represent great value for money.
The gym often run challenges like ‘The biggest loser’ or ‘Bootcamp’ which keeps members motivated and adds variety to a membership. Challenges like this are an extra cost.

The club has Personal Trainers who run their own business within the club. A Personal Trainer is able to push a member beyond what they would achieve by themselves. They act as motivator and educator and really do get results. Contact each PT regarding rates and availability.
